Job description

Summary

The Structural Engineer II will analyze existing and design new various structures (including Telecommunication Towers and Water Tanks). The candidate will also be responsible for providing quality control review of engineering services performed by other engineers.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related field required, Master’s degree preferred
  2. Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) is Preferred
  3. 2+ years of Structural Engineering experience specific to Telecommunication
  4. Building design experience with steel, concrete, wood, and masonry preferred
  5. Proficiency with structural analysis software preferred

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  1. Demonstrate focus on accuracy and high attention to detail
  2. Strong organizational skills
  3. Strong written and oral communication skills
  4. Self-motivated, able to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests as well as collaborating with others to utilize resources and knowledge in identifying high quality solutions
  5. Ability to work with functional groups and different level of employees throughout the organization to effectively and professionally achieve business results
  6. Proficient with computer software programs, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  7. Knowledge of AISC, ACI, ASCE, IBC, and state building codes
  8. Knowledge of CAD software

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities but depending on level of certification may require being in responsible charge of projects and reviewing other engineers work.

Essential Functions

  1. Review building structures for compliance with current standards and building codes
  2. Work with existing processes to correctly open analysis projects
  3. Design modifications to existing structures
  4. Work with Designer staff on the development of modification drawings
  5. Generate required engineering reports
  6. Review Quality Assurance (QA) and final review on structural analysis reports and designs
  7. Answer structure-related inquiries from internal and external customers
  8. Keep abreast of new technical methods and development related to structural engineering
  9. Provide assistance on unusual problems

Physical Demands

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand, as necessary. While performing the external job duties, the employee is regularly required to be at site locations both on the ground and on building roof tops, sit, stand, walk, use both hands, and reach and raise items above the head, use fingers to feel and handle, talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 35 pounds.

Work Environment

Most work in performed in climate-controlled internal office environment worked under normal office conditions. Less than 5% of work is performed externally, on-site, outdoors, with exposure to the elements of nature.
