Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking an Intermediate Structural Engineer for the Energy subsector to design and deliver structural solutions across renewable energy, power generation, and energy modernization projects. This role can be located in any Canadian office, with preference for Alberta and British Columbia.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, prepare calculations, develop design packages, and support project delivery from concept to commissioning. A P.Eng.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with structural specialization; an advanced degree is a strong asset.
  • Licensed as P.Eng. in the province of residence or eligible for registration.
  • 5+ years of civil/structural design experience in energy, power, renewable or heavy infrastructure.
  • Experience with steel structures, concrete foundations, piling, and related works.
  • Experience with structural analysis software: SAP2000, S-FRAME, STAAD.Pro, Dyna 6.
  • Knowledge of Python programming and API integrations for automation is an asset.
  • Strong collaboration and communication with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare structural design calculations, specs, MTOs, and deliverables per project codes.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and budget tracking to meet milestones.
  • Develop practical engineering solutions and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on energy infrastructure projects.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and field assessments as needed.
  • Prepare reports, design packages, and tender documentation.
  • Coordinate with designers, drafters, and staff to meet project requirements.
  • Support junior members through mentorship and peer reviews.

Your Impact
  • You’ll prepare structural design calculations, engineering specifications, material take-offs (MTOs), and technical deliverables in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
  • You’ll support project planning, scheduling, and budget tracking activities while contributing to the successful delivery of project milestones.
  • You’ll assist in developing practical engineering solutions to technical challenges and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across projects and processes.
  • You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support the design and execution of energy infrastructure projects, including renewable energy and power generation facilities.
  • You’ll participate in structural and civil engineering design activities for a variety of facilities and infrastructure, including concrete foundations, piling systems, and steel structures.
  • You’ll conduct site visits, inspections, and field assessments as required to support design development, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • You’ll prepare technical reports, calculations, design packages, work plans, and tender documentation to support project delivery.
  • You’ll coordinate with designers, drafters, and technical support staff to ensure project requirements are clearly communicated and executed.
  • You’ll build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and project team members.
  • You’ll contribute to quality assurance and quality control processes, helping to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of project deliverables.
  • You’ll review engineering documents and drawings for technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • You’ll support the development of junior team members by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and participating in peer reviews when appropriate.
  • You’ll communicate effectively with project teams and stakeholders, responding to technical inquiries and supporting the successful delivery of project objectives.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with a Structural Engineering specialization. An M.Sc., M.Eng., or Ph.D. in Structural Engineering is considered a strong asset.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of residence, or eligible for registration.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in civil and structural engineering design, preferably within the energy, power generation, renewable energy, industrial, or heavy infrastructure sectors.
  • Experience in the analysis and design of steel structures, concrete foundations, piling systems, and related civil/structural works.
  • Demonstrated experience using structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, S-FRAME, STAAD.Pro, Dyna 6, or similar applications.
  • Experience with dynamic and seismic analysis of structures and machine foundations, including vibration assessment and design for rotating and reciprocating equipment.
  • Knowledge of Python programming and API integrations/interfaces for engineering automation, data analysis, and workflow optimization would be considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of applicable Canadian and international design codes, standards, and industry best practices related to steel, concrete, and foundation design.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams and communicate technical information clearly to clients, contractors, and colleagues.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Compensation
  • AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $93,000 - $123,900
  • MB & ON: $84,800 - $118,400
  • NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $84,000 - 103,400
