About the Role

Arcadis is the world’s leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets. We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Rail & Transit team, supporting the planning, design, assessment and delivery of structural works across a range of railway projects. This role will contribute to complex and multidisciplinary assignments involving rail corridor infrastructure, bridges, retaining walls, tunnels, stations, ancillary structures, and rehabilitation or upgrade works associated with passenger and freight rail systems.

Responsibilities

As a Structural Engineer within our Rail & Transit practice, you will support the planning, analysis, design, and delivery of structural components across a range of railway and transit projects. Your work will contribute to new build, rehabilitation, and asset renewal programs, including structural designs for railway bridges and culverts, retaining walls, tunnels, underground structures, station and platform structures, signal foundations, equipment support structures, wayside assets, and other ancillary civil and structural rail infrastructure.

You will prepare and review design calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents in accordance with applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and railway‑specific design criteria. The role also involves undertaking condition assessments, inspections, structural evaluations, and rehabilitation recommendations for existing railway assets, helping to ensure designs are practical, resilient, and responsive to operational needs.

Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will collaborate with track, civil, geotechnical, drainage, systems, signalling, electrical, and roadway disciplines to develop integrated design solutions. You will participate in design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, risk reviews, and constructability assessments, while supporting effective project delivery through careful management of scope, deliverables, schedules, and budgets, with a continued focus on technical quality and client satisfaction.

You will also provide support during procurement and construction phases, including shop drawing reviews, responses to RFIs, field reviews, and site support as required. You will contribute to proposals, technical approaches, and client presentations for new opportunities, while helping to promote a culture of health and safety, technical excellence, innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

  • Familiarity with rail authority, transit agency, or owner requirements is considered a strong asset
  • Experience undertaking inspections, evaluations, and rehabilitation design for existing assets is an asset
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary project delivery in complex infrastructure settings
  • Proficiency with structural engineering software and design tools relevant to analysis and documentation
  • Experience with BIM / digital delivery environments and coordination platforms is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and engage effectively with clients and stakeholders
