Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and licensed Structural Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, reviewing, and stamping a wide range of structures, including pre-engineered steel buildings, floating slab and pier foundations, mezzanines, container roof systems, and structural steel buildings. This role also involves mentoring and guiding Engineers-in-Training (EITs) architectural technologists and drafters, fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, review, and stamp structural designs for pre-engineered steel buildings, floating slab and pier foundations, mezzanines, container roof systems, and other structural steel components.
- Conduct soil analysis, assess load requirements, and consider environmental factors to ensure the stability and durability of all designs.
- Apply knowledge of septic systems, wastewater management, and other related areas as needed.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to EITs and drafters within the department.
- Collaborate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
- Maintain compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Review and approve design calculations, drawings, and specifications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (mandatory).
- Bilingual (English and French) an asset.
- Fully licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario (must provide a license number upon request).
- Additional provincial registrations are an asset or must be willing to obtain.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in structural engineering, with a focus on steel structures and complex project design.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience practicing in Canada.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SAP2000, Advance Steel, Revit, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor and guide team members.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented and analytical mindset.
- Ability to manage projects, communicate effectively, and work both independently and within a team.
Performance Evaluation
- The performance of the Lead Engineer will be evaluated based on the following key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Technical Accuracy and Design Quality: Precision, consistency and adherence to structural best practice.
- Project Delivery and Timelines: Efficiency in managing engineering workloads and contributing to project timelines
- Project Management and Coordination: multitasking, leadership in cross-functional collaboration and proactive coordination.
- Regulatory Compliance and Professional Stamping: professional diligence, legal and ethical responsibility in engineering documentation
- Software Proficiency and Technical Tools: Leveraging technology to enhance engineering design and project execution.
- Site Support and Field Coordination: Field-readiness, practical support and ability to bridge design and execution.
