Job summary

CEP Forensic is seeking a skilled Civil & Structural Engineer to join our Calgary team. You will lead structural failure investigations, determine root causes, and document findings for clients and stakeholders.

The role involves on-site inspections, data collection, and collaboration with multidisciplinary experts. A P.Eng. license and 6+ years in civil/structural design and investigations are required, with assets in renovation projects.

Qualifications

• University degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and P.Eng. license.
• 6+ years of civil & structural design, construction, and failure investigations.
• Experience in renovation or repair of existing buildings is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural failure investigations and determine root cause.
• Attend client meetings and on-site inspections; perform damage surveys.
• Review technical drawings, standards, and codes; assess compliance.
• Gather evidence by capturing data, photos, videos, and interviews.

The role

As a forensic expert, you will:

• Perform and manage structural failure investigations and determine root cause of the failure and damage to buildings, foundations, structures, and building envelope mechanisms.
• Attend client meetings and on-site inspections, perform damage surveys and condition assessments.
• Review technical documentation including drawings, standards, codes, regulations, material specifications, maintenance, modification records, etc. Perform Provincial Codes and Standards compliance analysis and reviews.
• Gather evidence and determine circumstances surrounding the incident by capturing data, photographs, videos, and interviewing parties associated with the incident.
• Safely secure evidence for further analysis, and presentation to client and/or in court if required.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary experts on complex investigations.
• Prepare clear and concise reports, from preliminary findings to detailed technical documentation.
• Manage multiple projects while ensuring quality, timelines, and client expectations are met.
• Support and mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
• Participate in business development activities and maintain strong client relationships.
• Always follow HSE guidelines, procedures, and policies. Ensure safety of self, others, and the assets.

What's in your bag?

• University degree in Civil / Structural Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license.
• 6+ years of experience in civil & structural (wood, concrete, steel) design, construction, condition assessment, failure investigations and analysis.
• Experience in renovation or repair of existing buildings is considered a strong asset.
• Experience in building condition assessments is considered a strong asset.
• Strong command of both oral and written communication including report writing in English.
• Knowledge of the Construction Codes and Standards.
• Ability to synthesize information, analyze, and solve problems.
• Concern for efficiency, project deliver, attention to detail, and goal achievement.
