Job summary

Fluor Canada is seeking a Construction Coordinator ISBL to support the project team on a major industrial scope. The role focuses on providing technical interface between field engineering, quality, AWP, and turnover functions to ensure construction requirements are understood and executed efficiently.

The successful candidate will coordinate with field engineers and supervisors, verify material take-offs and equipment forecasts, and help drive timely procurement to keep the schedule on track.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree, technologist degree, technician diploma, or equivalent journeyman certification.
• Typically 7–12 years of experience in construction, technical, and engineering activities.
• Direct working experience on industrial projects with structural, mechanical, and piping disciplines.
• Strong interpersonal, listening and communications skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Self-starter attitude with ability to thrive in high-stress environments.
• Team player with ability to influence without authority and support project success.
• Excellent English verbal and writing language skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as focal point for technical interfaces within the project team and coordinate with other groups to meet construction requirements.
• Resolve engineering and technical problems with field engineering for mechanical, piping, and structural activities.
• Provide technical interpretation of design documents to support construction managers and contractors.
• Coordinate work of field engineers, drafters, technicians, and other personnel.
• Assist in preparation and revision of technical work procedures and ensure alignment with project schedules.
• Assist with material deliveries and verify permits, licenses, and readiness for work fronts.

Job Description

Reporting to the Lead Construction Coordinator - ISBL, the successful candidate will be assigned to the construction team and provide technical support to craft and supervision, as well as helping to satisfy the quality requirements on the project. Construction Coordinators do not have any direct responsibility for achieving progress or productivity, however, they are responsible for ensuring that progress is accurately reported and verified, and to minimize or eliminate any obstruction to the efficient working of the project. Construction Coordinators serve as the liaison between JFJV Construction and the field engineering, quality, AWP, and turnover functions on the project. The primary role of the Construction Coordinator is to act as the focal point for technical interfaces within the project team; ensuring that construction requirements are made known and promptly supported by other functions; and to coordinate with other groups in the technical services and quality organizations to ensure that construction delivers the requirements to support other project team members.

• Investigates and engages field engineering (when necessary) to resolve engineering and technical-related problems for both direct and subcontract labour in the areas of mechanical equipment, process piping, and structural steel.
• Provides technical interpretation of design documents in support of construction managers, superintendents and contractors, and provides specific expertise for problem-solving activities.
• Provides technical evaluation of bid proposals.
• Coordinates the work of field engineers, drafters, technicians, and other personnel who provide assistance on specific assignments.
• Coordinates the preparation and revision of technical work procedures (in conjunction with field engineering) consistent with project design and construction requirements.
• Liaisons with AWP/WFP and confirms the status of material deliveries to minimize schedule delays by cooperating with field material management.
• Verifies construction, building permits, and licenses, are available ahead of the work front.
• Validates material take-offs and equipment forecasts prepared by WFP, as well as initiates and prepares requisitions for the procurement of services, necessary to support the project schedule.
• Coordinates completion of construction activities in assigned systems and assists construction and turnover with preparing punch lists to ensure the readiness of systems for release to turnover.
• Monitors preparation of travel packages, work packages, and other construction-related information in a timely manner as required to support the work schedule.
• Monitors and inspects construction operations to ensure compliance with design documents.
• Assists construction with submission of warehouse requisitions and expedites the delivery of materials to the field.
• Assists field engineers by gathering information pertaining to field construction problems and providing input for resolution.
• Adheres to project AWP practices, procedures, and guidelines.
• Facilitates data transfer to AWP group.
• Provides guidance, training and development of construction coordinator personnel.
• Monitors the performance of construction coordinators against specific expectations.
• Maintains liaison with technical and construction support departments to provide the technical and construction expertise required to support the project.
• Supports the implementation of the constructability review program during the design and construction phases of the project.
• Coordinates, in conjunction with the contract administration group, the technical administration of contracts.
• Other duties as required
