Job summary

Fluor Canada seeks a qualified engineer to provide essential administrative processes, technical knowledge, and support to project teams. You will contribute to cost-competitive execution, develop specifications, and participate in procurement and design activities, while ensuring compliance with project requirements.

The role requires a four-year degree with extensive practical field experience and strong communication, technical, and computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Accredited four-year degree or global equivalent in applicable field and four years of related experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences including management, coworkers, clients, vendors and visitors
  • Job-related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, provincial and national statutes and guidelines
  • Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
  • Practical field experience
  • Intermediate computer and software skills: word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet, presentations

Responsibilities

  • Apply cost-competitive execution techniques to develop the most cost-effective total project solution
  • Develop and review specifications, including design criteria
  • Participate in activities: equipment and material procurement, permitting, subcontracting
  • Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, solve medium-to-complex engineering problems
  • Review vendor equipment documentation for compliance and resolve discrepancies
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations aligned with project objectives
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide the essential administrative processes, technical knowledge, and perform the work listed. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor’s competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. This position supports the Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects or evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques to a medium set of moderately difficult assignments.

  • Apply Cost Competitive Execution techniques to develop the most cost-effective total project solution for execution of the discipline engineering work
  • Develop and review specifications, including design criteria
  • Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting
  • Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and solve problems of moderate or complex engineering problems
  • Review vendor equipment documentation within the discipline and from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements, and actively seek discrepancy resolution
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned
Basic Job Requirements
  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and four (4) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to eight (8) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but is not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  • Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
  • Practical field experience
  • Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
Other Job Requirements

Perform calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures by hand and computer analysis

  • Intermediate knowledge of:
  • Hydrologic analysis and hydraulic design, geotechnical engineering and investigations, boundary and topographical surveying (civil)
  • Performing hand and computer calculationsfor foundations, concrete, and steel structures (structural) o Analyzing complex structures
  • Wind and seismic loading in structural calculations(structural)
  • Dynamic analysis and design (structural) o Computer modeling and analysis (structural)
  • Procurement and construction aspects of engineering o Vendor drawing review, intergroup review – squad checking
  • Engineering and fabricator drawing checking
  • Basic knowledge of:
  • Blast design (structural)
  • Managing and leading a small project

Salary is based upon experience. Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $149,000.00

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
