A local government agency in Alberta is seeking a Streets Equipment Operator II for winter seasonal maintenance. Candidates must possess a high school diploma and valid class 3Q license, along with the safe operation of equipment skills. This role includes operating trucks and loaders for snow maintenance. The term is from October 15, 2025, for 6 months, with a wage of $31.56 per hour.

Transportation equipment operator II– Transportation Operations
(Winter Seasonal Term; 0-40 hours per week; multiple positions available)
The City of Lethbridge, Public Operations Department, Transportation Section, is accepting applications for multiple winter seasonal term 0-40 positions of Streets Equipment Operator II.
Wage: $31.56 per hour
Term: Seasonal Term; 0-40 hours per week, starting October 15, 2025, for approximately 6 months.
*Please note that shift work will be required.
Duties:
The Streets Equipment Operator II is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of large, complex equipment involved in winter street maintenance. This includes trucks ranging from ½ ton through to and including tandem dump, single axle, and tandem sanders, as well as loaders, skid steers, trailers and street sweepers. Other duties will include the performance of routine servicing and minor maintenance of equipment; providing instruction to various helpers; and performing a variety of manual tasks. This will include the set up and removal of snow fences, repair work on barricades and guard rails, and general cleaning and maintenance of signs and bridge structures.
Qualifications
· The successful candidates must have experience in the safe operation of the types of equipment noted above.
· Completion of a high school diploma.
· Excellent driving and manoeuvring skills are required for working in a variety of extreme weather conditions.
· The successful candidates must also have extensive knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations involved in the operation of equipment and transportation of a variety of maintenance materials.
· Mechanical aptitude is required to successfully perform routine servicing and minor maintenance.
· Solid communication skills to guide and direct helpers and coordinate activities with other work groups are also required.
· Physical strength and dexterity to perform work under changing weather conditions is also necessary. Current certification in Defensive Driving, WHMIS, and 1st Aid would be an asset.
The successful candidates must have a valid class 3Q license.
