Job summary

Hungry For Life International in Chilliwack, BC, seeks a Director of Finance and Administration to provide strategic leadership across financial, administrative, compliance, and HR functions.

Reporting to Managing Director, you will ensure internal controls, budgets, audits, and donor funds compliance, while guiding the executive team in mission-aligned operations.

This full-time position (32–40 hours/week) offers a salary between $95,000 and $125,000 CAD annually, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or equivalent designation preferred.
• 5–7 years in accounting/financial management.
• Non-profit accounting, including fund accounting.
• Experience leading external audits and grant reporting.
• Senior HR leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian employment law.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all financial plans, practices, and policies.
• Oversee accounting systems, internal controls, and financial standards.
• Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and cash-flow projections.
• Supervise preparation of financial statements, management reports, and regulatory filings.
• Coordinate annual external audits and ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS.
• Oversee donation processing, fund accounting, donor-designated funds, and grant compliance.
• Manage banking relationships and investment strategies.
• Ensure compliance with Canadian charity tax law and other relevant regulations.
• Supervise finance and administrative staff, payroll, billing, and budgeting functions.
• Monitor performance and support development of finance and administration team members.
• Ensure compliance with contractor agreements and government reporting requirements.
• Contribute to policy development and strategic planning.
• Oversee the full employee lifecycle and HR programs aligned with goals.
• Partner with leadership on talent acquisition and organizational development.
• Oversee compensation, benefits, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Ensure employment legislation compliance and reporting.
• Stay current on HR best practices and HR tech.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

CPA or equivalent designation

5–7 years in accounting/financial management

Non-profit accounting experience (fund accounting)

Audits and grant reporting experience

Senior HR leadership experience

Canadian employment law knowledge
