Job summary

Sun Life is seeking a Group Underwriting Consultant to lead complex underwriting work and provide strategic risk guidance. You will partner with Business Development, clients and internal teams to balance pricing decisions while protecting profitability.

You will apply advanced risk analysis and financial evaluation to complex cases, present clear insights, and mentor other underwriters. Strong collaboration and a bias for continuous improvement are essential.

Qualifications

• Advanced underwriting expertise with end-to-end decisionmaking.
• Strong financial, client and business acumen linked to outcomes.
• Proven negotiation, influence and stakeholder alignment skills.
• Experience coaching and mentoring teams.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance.
• Experience with analytics and AI-enabled insights in underwriting.
• Excellent problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.
• Ability to lead large renewals, quotes, and transformation projects.
• Strong mathematical and analytical abilities for underwriting decisions.
• Proficient in underwriting systems and Excel for trend analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex renewals, quotes, plan revisions end-to-end.
• Apply advanced risk analysis and financial evaluation to complex cases.
• Present insights and translate analytics into business decisions.
• Partner with Business Development to support client management and negotiations.
• Deliver presentations, reviews and training to strengthen capabilities.
• Coach and mentor underwriters for sound judgment and consistency.
• Support transformation initiatives, pilots, and new tools.
• Leverage analytics, AI and technology as decision support.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and client experience.
• Model accountability and uphold ethical standards within the team.
