Job summary

The Vancouver School Board is seeking a Director, Labour Relations to provide strategic leadership and expert advice across its labour relations portfolio within a highly unionized public education environment.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Employee Services, the role will guide collective bargaining strategy, interpretation of agreements, investigations, and workplace matters while strengthening team capability and executive credibility across stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Seven to ten or more years of progressive labour relations experience.
• Significant experience leading collective bargaining and grievance arbitration processes.
• Demonstrated experience within complex, multi-union and highly regulated environments.
• Strong expertise in collective agreement administration and interpretation.
• Experience within public education or broader public sector is highly relevant.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across VSB’s Labour Relations function and portfolio.
• Advise senior leadership with executive judgement on complex labour issues.
• Lead collective bargaining strategy and negotiations for multiple agreements.
• Guide administration, interpretation, grievances, mediation, and arbitration matters.
• Develop and strengthen team capability, relationships with unions, and accountability.
