Job summary

The Vancouver School Board is Canada’s largest public school system in British Columbia, serving more than 50,000 students with 7,700+ employees. The Director, Labour Relations will provide strategic leadership across a complex, multi-union environment and act as a trusted advisor to district leadership.

Based at the VSB Education Centre in Vancouver, this onsite leadership role requires executive judgement, deep labour relations expertise, and the ability to balance bargaining, interpretation

Qualifications

• Seven to ten or more years of progressive labour relations experience.
• Significant experience leading collective bargaining and arbitration.
• Demonstrated ability to lead in a multi-union, regulated public-sector environment.
• Strong analytical, advisory, and communication skills.
• Degree in HR, Labour Relations, Law or related field; graduate degree asset.
• Experience in public education or similar sectors preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction for VSB’s Labour Relations function.
• Provide executive advice to senior leadership on high-impact matters.
• Lead collective bargaining strategy and major negotiations.
• Oversee administration and interpretation of collective agreements.
• Mentor and develop the Labour Relations team.
• Maintain credible relationships with unions and stakeholders.
