Strategic Category Procurement Lead

Job summary

Kiewit Supply Network is seeking a Category Procurement Lead to own one or more spend categories end to end, building strategy and managing suppliers across projects in Calgary, with travel to job sites possible.

You will lead a team of buyers and category analysts, partner with project management and finance, and drive measurable savings while ensuring compliance with policies and contractual requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, engineering, economics, or related field.
• Seven or more years of procurement or supply chain experience with category ownership.
• Proven category management capability: spend analytics, supply market analysis, sourcing strategy design, and strategy execution through to measurable value delivery.
• Experience leading competitive sourcing events and negotiating significant agreements, including master and long-term supply agreements.
• Working knowledge of commercial terms and conditions, contract law fundamentals, and supply risk management.
• Experience leading or mentoring others in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong analytical and financial modelling skills, with proficiency in ERP and e-sourcing platforms and advanced Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the credibility to influence senior internal stakeholders and supplier executives.

Responsibilities

• Own the category management lifecycle for assigned categories: spend analysis, supply market assessment, demand profiling, sourcing strategy development, execution, and ongoing category governance.
• Build and maintain category playbooks that define preferred suppliers, buying channels, commercial models, pricing mechanisms, and escalation paths, and keep them current as markets shift.
• Conduct supply market and should-cost analysis, track commodity and index movements, and translate that intelligence into buying timing, hedging approaches, and negotiation leverage.
• Run structured competitive sourcing events end to end: bid package preparation, RFI/RFP design, bid evaluation and levelling, total-cost-of-ownership modelling, and award recommendation.
• Consolidate fragmented spend into master agreements and national or regional programs that create leverage across multiple projects and districts.
• Define and track category value targets, then deliver and report measurable savings, cost avoidance, and working capital improvement.
