Storyteller / Content Creator at Athabasca Basin Development

We have so many amazing stories to tell. And we need someone to help us tell them. Heard of the Saskatchewanderer? Same basic idea.

Athabasca Basin Development is a strong Indigenous-owned investment company, owned by Denesųłiné communities in Saskatchewan’s far north. We have ownership in 14 companies in a wide range of industries, from retail to industrial security, drilling, IT, aviation and more. Our investments collectively employ over 1000 people and our shareholder communities collectively have about 4500 people.

We are seeking a talented and creative Storyteller to join our team. The Storyteller will be responsible for producing engaging content across various platforms for Athabasca Basin Development and several of our investments.

The ideal candidate should have a passion for stories, possesses strong writing skills, and be endlessly curious. Our ideal Storyteller will be personable and outgoing, willing to film and direct others as well as star in the show, and have the ability to adapt to different formats, voices, and styles.

Responsibilities :

  • Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Storyteller’s primary role is to source stories and create compelling and original content for websites, blogs, social media platforms, our newsletter, email campaigns and other digital channels for multiple companies.
  • You will work with team members to develop content strategies that meet the marketing goals and objectives of the investment companies.
  • Research industry trends, topics, and keywords to generate ideas for content creation.
  • Collaborate with team members, including external agencies, designers, videographers, and subject matter experts, to produce high-quality multimedia content.
  • Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to brand voices and style guidelines.
  • Optimize content for increasing online visibility and engagement.
  • Monitor and analyze content performance using analytics tools and metrics to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in content creation, digital marketing, and social media.
  • Maintain a consistent publishing schedule and ensure timely delivery of content projects.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas for content campaigns, promotions, and initiatives.
  • Monitor social media channels. Interact with users and respond to social media messages, inquiries and comments.
  • Assist with planning events such as Santa in the North and Athabasca Student Dinners, etc. and attend events where required. This includes travel to Athabasca communities as well as events in Saskatoon ,Prince, Albert, Regina, and other locations.

Our ideal candidate will have the following qualifications :

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Solid understanding of MS office applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
  • Ability to speak Dene and knowledge of Dene culture is a strong asset but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Business, Education or related field is considered an asset but not required.
  • Proven experience as a Content Creator, Copywriter, or similar role, preferably in a digital marketing or agency environment an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of storytelling – able to tell a story that resonates with your audience on an emotional level.
  • Strong understanding of digital content trends, social media platforms, and content management systems (CMS).
  • Proficiency in using content creation tools and software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar programs.
  • Familiarity with SEO principles and best practices for optimizing content for search engines.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and creating engaging multimedia content.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with photography, videography, graphic design, or other multimedia skills
