Job Description

Position Purpose: The role involves providing service to customers, sorting incoming products, and assisting in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Responsibilities
  1. Greet and interact with customers/donors positively and courteously.
  2. Contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient customer service; tactfully handle difficult customers.
  3. Know product pricing and featured sales; protect the integrity of donated items.
  4. Maintain store opening and closing procedures.
  5. Accurately complete customer transactions, including cash and debit sales, with minimal errors.
  6. Follow store policies on payments, refunds, voids, and holds.
  7. Process donations by loading, sorting, packing, hanging, and pricing.
  8. Respond to customer inquiries about stock via phone or in person.
  9. Monitor store activity for security purposes.
  10. Assist with store layout, displays, and merchandise presentation.
  11. Manage inventory by sorting, hanging, and pricing stock.
  12. Assist with donation turnover, restocking, and inventory removal.
  13. Handle merchandise safely and organize stock rotation.
  14. Assist donors and process donations appropriately.
  15. Ensure products are correctly priced and store standards are maintained.
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Health and Safety

Contribute to a safe environment by maintaining cleanliness, tidiness, and safety protocols, including snow removal, clear fire exits, and spill cleanup. Comply with OH&S regulations and store policies.

Additional Details

This is a permanent full-time position with variable schedules including weekdays and Saturdays. The physical requirements include standing for long periods, frequent bending, twisting, and lifting up to 30 pounds.

Qualifications

  • High school coursework or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in customer service, cash handling, and working with goods is preferred.
  • Knowledge of lifting guidelines and working in a computerized environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and good communication skills.
