Job summary

Sonesta International Hotels Corporation seeks a diligent Steward in Toronto to maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, storage areas, and back dock while supporting the Food & Beverage team. You will operate dishwashing stations, sanitize equipment, and assist with loading dock duties.

The ideal candidate has stewarding or hotel food-prep experience, strong organizational skills, and a cordial, guest-focused attitude. Flexible shifts and adherence to safety guidelines are required.

Qualifications

• Stewarding experience in hotels is preferred.
• Relevant experience in restaurant or hotel food preparation preferred.
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Prioritization and time management skills.
• Able to work quickly without compromising quality.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain a high level of performance.
• Attentive, friendly, helpful, and courteous to all guests, managers, and fellow employees.

Responsibilities

• Collect and empty trash from designated areas into the hotel dumpster.
• Clean, organize and sanitize loading dock.
• Fill all washing stations with hand soap, sanitizer and paper towel.
• Maintain and refill coffee station in the Diner with all condiments
• Adhere to established safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Adhere to uniform and grooming standards.
• Perform other duties or projects as requested by management.

The Steward sets the tone for Sonesta’s mission by always going above and beyond for our guests and coworkers. The role’s responsibility is to clean, sanitize, transport and store pots and pans, china, glassware, silverware and other equipment to be used in the Food and Beverage department. The Steward is also responsible maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, storage areas, dumpster area and back dock area according to established safety and sanitation guidelines. The ideal candidate has a passion for hospitality and providing exceptional service.

What You’ll Be Doing

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate dish machine, clean and sanitize pots and pans, china, glassware, flatware, kitchen equipment, and other utensils when needed.
• Clean and sanitize the kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Sweep and mop all kitchen floors and other assigned areas when needed.
• Collect and empty trash from designated areas into the hotel dumpster.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
• Frequent bending, kneeling and reaching.
• Ability to stand during entire shift.
• Must be able to tolerate extreme temperatures - i.e. freezers, loading dock
• Must be able to tolerate hot temperatures in excess of 110 degrees near dish machine, when assigned for an entire shift.
• Must be able to tolerate the use of certain chemicals for cleaning and sanitizing.

Expected Hours of Work:

• Must be flexible to work variable days of the week to include weekends and holidays.
• Must be flexible to work variable shifts (days, nights, overnights)

Education and Experience:

• Stewarding experience in hotels is preferred.

• Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee by bringing health and safety concerns or issues to the attention of the committee.

Anticipated Pay Range & Additional Job Information

Pay Range: $21.76 to $24.18/hour pay rate outlined follows contract requirements.
