Job description

Sterile Supply Processing Technician, Animal Resource Centre

The Sterile Supply Processing Technician at the BC Cancer Research Centre's Animal Resource Centre performs specific duties related to the decontaminating, checking, testing, assembling, packaging, wrapping and sterilizing of re-processable and reusable barrier facility products for immunocompromised mice including packs of surgical instruments prepared by technical personnel, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.


What you'll do
  1. Check, clean and decontaminate re-processable and reusable supplies and equipment in the barrier rodent facility, such as cages, cage racks, water bottles, water valves, cage enrichment, and carts. Sterilize packs of surgical instruments prepared by technical personnel.
  2. Operate ultra-sonic washer, mechanical washers and sterilizers, and participate in routine maintenance of the department's equipment by cleaning, checking and testing equipment for functionality. Reports maintenance needs to Manager or designate.
  3. Sort, inspect, and reassemble equipment and supplies according to written procedures.
  4. Wrap and label equipment and supplies for sterilization according to written procedures.
  5. Fill orders for sterile supply processing, according to weekly task list and email requests.
  6. Maintain inventory levels of sterile and non-sterile supplies by restocking depleted supplies, and reprocessing outdated sterile items in the barrier rodent facility.
  7. Monitor supplies for wear, and maintains attrition logs to support when equipment requires replacement.

What you bring

Qualifications:

  1. Grade 12, successful completion of a sterile supply processing course, plus one year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  2. Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts. This includes understanding how these factors contribute to current health disparities and barriers to care.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Cancer contexts found in foundational documents including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).

  2. Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples.
