Qualifications

Job description

Sterile Supply Aide, Operating Room

BC Cancer

Vancouver, BC

The Sterile Supply Aide is responsible for collecting and delivering, cleaning, decontaminating, packaging, assembling and sterilizing instruments and supplies for the Surgical Suite and other user areas in the Agency.

What you'll do
  • Wash, clean, decontaminate, checks, assembles and wraps or packages instruments, trays, sets and equipment for the Surgical Suite and other user departments in the Agency.
  • Operate ultra-sonic washer, washer sterilizer, steam autoclave and related processing equipment.
  • Monitor the cleaning and sterilizing process and records results; reports abnormalities to the supervisor.
  • Pick instrument sets and supplies for operative procedures according to established guidelines.
  • Maintain quota of unsterile and sterile supplies and equipment by restocking depleted supplies and reprocessing outdated sterile sets, bundles and supplies in the Surgical Suite.
  • Monitor supplies used in the section and advises supervisor when supplies need replenishing.
  • Fill sterile and unsterile supply requisitions from all user departments within the Agency.
  • Collect and delivers supplies from and to the Sterile Supply department and other user departments within the Agency.
What you bring
Qualifications:
  • Completion of Grade 12.
  • Completion of a Sterile Supply Processing Course.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the historic and ongoing impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples within social and health contexts.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments within BC Cancer contexts found in the foundational documents.
Core Competencies:
  • Brings an understanding of the Indigenous specific racism and the broader systemic racism that exists in the colonial health care structure.
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities of settler colonialism on Indigenous Peoples.
You have:
  • Knowledge of medical and surgical asepsis.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job such as lifting, pushing carts, and standing.
  • Ability to organize workload.
  • Ability to operate related equipment such as washer sterilizer, ultra-sonic washer and steam sterilizer.
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with all levels of staff, verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to beginning and continuing their personal learning journey related to Indigenous-specific racism.

Wage: $28.91 per hour
