Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in sterile processing for Tech II.
  • 3 years experience in sterile processing with experience in all surgical specialties for Tech III.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a Sterile Processing setting for Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Operate autoclaves and other sterilization equipment.
  • Inspect and assemble instruments, trays, and packs.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new caregivers.
  • Coordinate, assemble and distribute supplies for surgical cases.
  • Order supplies and restock inventory.
  • Clean, decontaminate, and sterilize instruments.

Skills

Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communications in English

PeaceHealth is seeking Sterile Processing Technician's for a variety of positions at St. Joseph Medical Center, Bellingham, WA. The salary range for these job openings at PeaceHealth is $22.27 – $33.43. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

  • Tech I: .80; Evening Shift; 8 Hours (3:00pm - 11:30am)

  • Tech I: .90; Evening Shift; 8 Hours (3:00pm - 11:30pm)

  • Lead: 1.00 Night Shift; 8 Hours (11:00pm - 7:30am)

These positions are represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on these postings.

Job Summary:

Responsible for operating autoclaves and other equipment to clean, decontaminate and sterilize instruments and equipment, including power equipment as applicable. Also responsible for inspecting and assembling instruments, trays and packs.

Details of the position

  • Assist in the orientation and training of new caregivers as directed by the Sterile Processing Tech III, Sterile Processing Tech Lead or Supervisor Sterile Processing.

  • Responsible for the coordination, assembly and distribution of supplies, equipment and instruments for surgical cases.

  • Responsible for ordering supplies and Re-stocking inventory.

  • Collaborates with the Perioperative Nursing staff to provide sterile instrument sets, and equipment in an accurate and timely manner. Assists in maintaining consistent and continuous workflow, providing superior customer service.

  • Cleaning, decontaminating, disassembling and sterilizing instruments and supplies.

  • Operate a variety of sterilization equipment.

  • Clean and maintain department equipment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you bring:

Tech II

  • Minimum of 1 year Required: Experience in sterile processing

  • Required: Certified Registered Central Service Technician or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician

  • Preferred: Completion of a National Central Service Technician

Tech III

  • 3 years Required: Experience in sterile processing with experience in all surgical specialties

  • Required: Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician or Certified Registered Central Service Technician

  • Required: Certified Instrument Specialist

Lead

  • Minimum of 1 year Required: Experience in a Sterile Processing setting , with experience in all surgical specialties

  • Required: Experience with Neuro, Ortho, and General Surgical instrumentation

  • Required: Certified Instrument Specialist

  • Required: National Sterile Processing/Distribution Certification

Skills

  • Basic computer skills including MS Office applications. (Required)

  • Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communications in English. (Required)

  • Increased knowledge and understanding of Sterile Processing procedures. (Required)

Working Conditions:

Lifting

  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.

  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment, frequently.

  • Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 25 lbs.

  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 10 lbs. force.

  • Reaching frequently.

  • Squat/ kneel occasionally.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
