As the STEM Specialist– Outreach you will work with the dynamic Outreach team, based in Sudbury, Thunder Bay, and Sault Ste Marie, to develop and deliver program experiences in Northern Ontario communities, including many First Nation Communities. You will work with a variety of audiences, including children and youth, as you actively communicate and promote STEM through dynamic, engaging Science North programs. Delivering quality educational and informal science experiences in Sudbury/Thunder Bay/Sault Ste Marie, and on the road will be the main component of this role. If you have experience in program development and delivery, are passionate about science either with a formal background or through life/work experience, this may be the job for you!

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver science experiences in Northern Ontario communities, including Indigenous communities
  • Lead the delivery of outreach experiences throughout Northern Ontario including visits to schools, festivals, fairs, and partner locations
  • Organize, plan, book and deliver science outreach events
  • Use your exceptional interpersonal skills to foster reciprocal relationships with communities in Northern Ontario
  • Be a key member of the STEM Engagement Unit, supporting other programming initiatives
  • Support the development of exhibits and programs, working with the education and exhibits teams to ensure programs meet current curriculum standards and exhibits fit travelling parameters
  • Monitor, evaluate, obtain and act on programming feedback
  • Support the writing of scripts, signage and content for programs and specialty workshops/shows
  • Deliver and oversee the delivery of programs by others
  • Manage and control area expenditures and complete/submit financial reporting
  • Compile reports, maintain programming information, staff records and other required information
  • Liaise, coordinate, support and collaborate with internal and external clients as required
  • Problem solve/anticipate needs/issues, identify solutions and respond to client complaints/concerns

What you bring:

  • Formal background in a STEM field or equivalentexperience
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning and project management skills
  • Superior attention to detail and an aptitude for resourcefulness
  • Exceptional communication skills, possessing a high level of verbal and written proficiency in English. Fluency in French will required for one of the available roles, however fluency in French for other roles would be as asset
  • Excellent demonstrated program development and delivery skills
  • Ability to engage large crowds with science shows
  • Ability to work independently often from external locations
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout Northern Ontario, including evening and weekend work, non-negotiable
  • Valid G driver’s license reflecting a 3-year safe driving record, non-negotiable

Compensation Highlights:

  • Competitive salary starting at $47,300 to $57,000 per year
