STEM Specialist – Northwest Informal Programs

Full-time – 1 year contract

47,300 per year

The STEM Specialist is a key member of the Education and Northern Programs team, leading and supporting programs and initiatives out of our Thunder Bay satellite office. They focus on the development, marketing and delivery of Summer camp programs, PA Days and other workshops / events and initiatives (including Outreach opportunities) in Thunder Bay and throughout Northern Ontario.

This position is based in Northwestern Ontario. Although Science North holds a base of operations in Thunder Bay, this opportunity would potentially be suitable for individuals interested in work remotely from other areas of Northwestern Ontario with frequent travel to and from Thunder Bay.

You are passionate about creating and delivering engaging and informative experiences for all ages but particularly children. It’s important to you that everyone have a wonderful time at camps and leaves with memories that last a lifetime. You are excited about being a product ambassador for Science North and can deliver quality, educational and informal science experiences both in Thunder Bay and on the road. You can also harness your leadership skills to oversee and coordinate teams of staff across Northern Ontario.

Position Highlights

  • Lead, organize and coordinate multiple teams of staff delivering programming all across Northern Ontario
  • Deliver programming throughout informal programs, events and workshops year-round
  • Ensure safety of participants and staff alike
  • Recruit, train and mentor staff teams
  • Organize supplies, shipments, accommodations for travelling teams

Experience and Skills

You will have demonstrated experience working with children and a variety of audiences, experience in program development and delivery and will be science focused with a formal background and / or equivalent experience in a STEM related field. You will need to utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills to be successful. Finally you must have a willingness to travel and the ability to work in a fast paced environment, managing multiple priorities.

Qualifications

The position also requires a current (less than 3 months) criminal background check and a valid driver’s license reflecting a 3-year safe driving record (non-negotiable).
