Join the Alberta Energy Regulator as a Statement of Concern Analyst, where you'll manage and analyze Statements of Concern through the SOCAR process. Location: Calgary or Edmonton, AB
Employment Type: Full Time – Limited Term – Anticipated duration 6 months with potential for extension based on business needs.
Salary Range: SP2, Level 4, $75,600 - $94,500. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

The Opportunity

Join theRegulatory Applications (RA) Branchat theAlberta Energy Regulator (AER)as aSOC Analyst, where you’ll play a vital role in managing and analyzing Statements of Concern (SOCs) through the Statements if Concern Application Review (SOCAR) process. In this role, you’ll collaborate with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure regulatory requirements are met and that applications are reviewed with fairness, integrity, and transparency. Your work will directly support the AER’s commitment to responsible resource development and maintaining public trust.
What your day-to-day will look like:
Analyze Statements of Concern and prepare SOCAR documents in collaboration with AER staff to support application decisions.
Work cross-functionally to ensure consistency, fairness, and quality in SOCAR documentation and processes.
Maintain clear communication with stakeholders to support understanding of SOC requirements and procedures.
Develop a broad understanding of application types and directives to inform SOCAR recommendations.
Provide backup support for SOC Assessor duties as needed.
Deliver training and presentations to industry and internal groups on SOC processes and regulatory requirements.
Respond to inquiries from internal teams, industry, and the public regarding SOCAR processes.
Support continuous improvement by contributing to process enhancements and project work.
What we’re looking for in you:
Bachelor’s degree in business, science, legal studies, or arts.
Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access);
Experience with AER systems (IAR, ERKS, OneStop) is an asset.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation delivery.
