As a Standardization Specialist/Engineer focused on the management of Coherent Optics at Nokia, you will be a key player in shaping the future of optical networking standards within the OIF, IEEE and ITU-T. You will collaborate closely with a dedicated standards team and leverage expertise from across Nokia to influence management standards and drive innovation. Your work will involve drafting technical specifications and contributions, representing Nokia in industry SDOs and forums, and engaging with cross-functional teams in R&D and product management to align with our strategic goals. Develop and refine specifications for the management of advanced optical pluggable transceivers, ensuring they meet industry requirements.
Draft, edit, and manage technical contributions for OIF, ITU-T, and other relevant standards bodies to advance Nokia's objectives.
Collaborate with internal experts to build consensus on strategic positions and maintain alignment with corporate goals.
Coordinate participation in standards meetings, presenting contributions and documenting outcomes effectively.
Monitor and analyze developments in optical pluggable module standards to identify potential opportunities and risks for Nokia.
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, product management, and legal, to ensure technical coherence and to act as SME for those standards you are driving.
Utilize strong communication skills to represent Nokia’s interests in industry forums and with partners, while fostering good working relationships with the other members.
Travel internationally as needed to engage with standards bodies and contribute to key meetings.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s preferred)
7+ years of experience in optical networking, data center networking or telecommunications
Knowledge of Ethernet, VLAN bridging, IP, L3 routing, network security models
Hands-on experience managing network elements on an IP network
Familiarity with standards organizations such as OIF, ITU-T, or IEEE
Excellent technical writing and editing skills, proficient in collaborative document tools (e.g., Word, LaTeX, Git)
It would be nice if you also had:
Experience serving as an editor or rapporteur in a standards body
Knowledge of advanced pluggable transceivers (e.g., 400ZR(+), 800ZR(+), 1600ZR(+))
Experience in stateful protocol design, embedded systems design, management network architecture or management of network elements
Experience with SNMP protocol and MIBs, NETCONF protocol and YANG modelling, UML or other modelling language
Understanding of the network orchestration layer and Lifecycle Orchestration of network services
Understanding of intellectual property considerations in standards work
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
5+ years of Standards experience
Experience developing total solution, writing requirements
Experience in all phases of development: PLM, Arch, development, support
Optical telecommunications experience
