About the job:

BC Hydro is seeking a motivated multi-tasker and results-oriented team player with experience managing issues related to community relations, public relations, public consultation, communications, and public affairs.

This position requires agility and a wide-ranging communications skillset including, but not limited to, the ability to: manage challenging issues on a daily basis; manage emergency public communications; navigate difficult situations involving various stakeholder groups and organizations; as well as develop and implement communications and stakeholder engagement programs in support of high complexity, high profile capital projects and associated regulatory requirements.

What you’ll do

The successful candidate will:

* Engage with, build and maintain relationships with local/regional government elected officials and senior staff, local/ regional provincial government MLAs and other stakeholders.

* Under the direction of the manager, lead BC Hydro communications in the Columbia region

* Manage a wide variety of often unpredictable BC Hydro-related issues.

* Design and manage consultation, communications and engagement processes, working closely with multi-disciplinary project teams.

* Develop and maintain strong internal networks and alignment with departments across the organization.

* Ensure linkage and co-ordination with BC Hydro First Nations' programs and with other internal programs as appropriate.

* Act as a facilitator of high profile, sensitive and complex meetings or consultations on behalf of BC Hydro.

* Develop and advise on methods to incorporate stakeholder input into BC Hydro's capital projects and operations.

* Pitch stories to and conduct interviews with local media on behalf of BC Hydro. Represent BC Hydro at various public, in-person meetings and at various events in the Southern Interior. * Demonstrate BC Hydro’s values at all times.

What you bring

* University degree, graduate certification or equivalent in a relevant discipline (i.e. journalism, communications, public relations).

* A minimum of six (6) years of specific or related experience in community relations, public consultation and/or communications/public affairs.

* An understanding of BC Hydro’s Columbia system

* Familiarity with the Columbia and Kootenay regions

* Experience developing and implementing communications and stakeholder engagement programs.

* Experience supporting high profile and complex capital projects and regulatory requirements.

* Highly agile, collaborative, innovative and resourceful individual with a focus on exceptional service delivery.

* Strong writing skills and critical thinking are essential for this position.

* Superior interpersonal and listening skills with the ability to understand internal and external stakeholders' points of view in order to build positive business relationships.

* Strong engagement, communications and public speaking skills, including an ability to take complex information and communicate it clearly and simply.

* Demonstrated ability to establish credibility, build awareness and resolve conflict.

* Ability to prepare concise reports and lead in-person and virtual public meetings.

* Strategic thinker with ability to develop, implement and manage a project engagement plan.

* Experience working with or in media a strong asset.

* Being a team player who enjoys and thrives with collaboration

Knowledge of BC Hydro's Columbia system and its operations, some familiarity with the Columbia River Treaty, familiarity with formal processes including for BC Hydro capital projects and reservoir operations an asset.

What else you should know

* This position is based out of BC Hydro’s Castlegar office.

* Regular travel during all seasons is required throughout the southern interior of BC and occasionally to the lower mainland.

* A condition of employment for this job is that you have a Class 5 Driver's Licence and maintain it in good standing.
