Who You Are

You are an experienced digital reporter and storyteller with a passion for local journalism. You have an expert knowledge of Vancouver and an insatiable curiosity to discover what’s new and to report on people, places and stories not covered by other media. You’re comfortable reporting on a wide range of topics such as local news, lifestyle and culture that includes but is not exclusive to: breaking news, housing and real estate, events, food and restaurants, nightlife, shopping, local travel and outdoors and the history of the city.

What You'll Do

• Report on news and lifestyle stories in an entertaining and timely manner every day, sometimes breaking at any moment
• Publish posts ranging from breaking news stories to local politics to development to more simple photo/video posts
• Use analytics to pitch story ideas that are compelling and will drive conversation in Vancouver
• Work with team members on story producing and prioritize coverage/stories.
• Follow viral and emerging trends on media and social media
• Conduct necessary research required to produce content, which may include but is not limited to conducting interviews and attending events
• Work ahead to schedule weekend content for Daily Hive
• Attend editorial team meetings and pitch feasible story ideas.
• Keep up-to-date with news and events happening around the country and contribute to the conversation about culture in Vancouver.
• Increase credibility of the company through quality, trustworthy, and ethical work.
• Capture quality photos for accompanying articles, as needed.
• Monitor engagement of articles and accept feedback from the editorial team in order to make necessary improvements or adjustments to work.
• Other tasks, as required by your manager.

What You Have

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Previous experience as a writer or reporter
• Proficiency in the use of WordPress or other CMS
• Understanding of social media and SEO and their importance to publishing
• Skilled with photography, and photo editing is an asset
• Ability to efficiently and effectively proofread and edit content.
