Salary Range: $50,000 to $55,000 depending on experience

Who We Are

ZoomerMedia owns and operates media across all platforms — TV, radio, print and digital — through leading brands: blogTO, Daily Hive, Curiocity, The Peak, MobileSyrup, Vision TV, The New Classical 96.3 FM, Zoomer Radio, Zoomer Magazine, the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP), and more. Founded by television and media icon Moses Znaimer in 2008, Zoomer is a multiplatform media company devoted to creating content and experiences for Canada's most powerful audiences: the 18.1 million people aged 45-plus aka "Zoomers", and the 15.1 million Millennials and Gen Zs, coincidentally also called Zoomers, who follow in their footsteps.

Zoomer Digital Network is ZoomerMedia’s new digital media division with the acquisitions of Canada’s largest brands, such as blogTO, Daily Hive, Curiocity and many more.

Who You Are

You have an insatiable curiosity for Calgary’s local scene — from the coolest must-visit spots to the can't-miss events and lifestyle stories shaping the city. In this role, you’ll dive into the city’s lifestyle, events, and cultural happenings for Curiocity Calgary. You're just as excited to break a story about a buzzy new opening as you are to spotlight an event that you think Calgary needs to know about. You're a confident writer, a natural storyteller, and a culture-savvy content creator who thrives in a fast-paced digital atmosphere and loves being on the pulse of what’s new, next, and uniquely Calgary.

What You'll Do

  • Report and write fresh, on-brand, and credible content while ensuring accuracy, timely reporting, and engaging storytelling across multiple platforms.
  • Write multiple pieces daily and ensure consistent content cadence for our local brands.
  • Pitch feasible stories daily and take assignments from your local editor that align with Calgary’s editorial focus.
  • Ensure articles follow company guidelines, including proper sourcing, fact-checking, and adherence to ZDN’s style guide.
  • Conduct necessary research, including interviews, event coverage, and staying informed on lifestyle/travel trends and the local scene.
  • Create written content using strong visual storytelling and platform best practices. Select, edit, or shoot high-quality images and videos to accompany stories.
  • Monitor article performance and adjust content strategy based on engagement metrics and audience behaviour.
  • Repurpose written content to social media platforms as required.
  • Stay up-to-date with social media trends, competitor activity, and industry best practices to enhance content strategy.
  • Attend local events on behalf of the Company, understanding some of these unique event opportunities occur evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of your assigned city’s lifestyle scene.
  • Be a team player and collaborate with editors, social media managers, photographers, and videographers to produce compelling content.
  • Other tasks as assigned by your manager.

The role’s duties and responsibilities enclosed within are not an exhaustive list and are subject to change. Your manager may ask you to assist with other tasks from time to time.

What You Have

  • Deep-rooted knowledge of Calgary’s arts, culture, entertainment, and lifestyle scene with a passion for sharing local stories driven by city pride.
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a portfolio that showcases your ability to produce clean, engaging, and accurate content in a fast-paced digital environment.
  • Ability to pitch original ideas, take direction, and consistently meet deadlines while juggling multiple assignments.
  • Ability to generate social media content based on originally written articles.
  • A self-starter who thrives working independently and collaboratively as part of a tight-knit, creative team.
  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, and keen attention to detail.
  • Understanding of social media best practices is also an advantage.

What We Offer

  • Flexible paid time off policy to ensure you're able to get the break you need and work at an optimized level.
  • Opportunity for both professional and personal growth.
  • Hybrid work environment.
  • Benefits package including dental, vision and extended health starting after 3 months.

We thank all applicants for applying, however, only successful candidates will be contacted.
