About the role

The Smart Trailer and Connected Equipment business unit is one of Samsara's fastest-growing product lines. We focus on solutions that help manage trailers and unpowered equipment, including tracking utilization, monitoring loads and temperatures via sensors, and providing comprehensive asset deployment visibility.

This role is remote and open to candidates residing in Canada. Relocation assistance will not be provided.

In this role, you will
  • Bring a customer-focused mindset to development, iterating quickly to deliver value.
  • Partner with the Engineering Manager to ensure long-term technical health of our products.
  • Leverage team efforts to deliver value and act as a force multiplier.
  • Mentor other engineers through active participation in design and implementation discussions.
  • Embed Samsara’s cultural principles—Customer Success, Long-Term Building, Growth Mindset, Inclusivity, Teamwork—into your work.
Minimum requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years in software design, development, and algorithms, with at least 4 years in an architect or leadership role.
  • Proven ability to ship production-quality software in dynamic environments.
  • Expertise with web services at scale on cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
  • Proficiency in writing high-quality, performant, and maintainable code in modern languages.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred qualifications
  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience with geolocation, geofences, BLE, Maps, and algorithm evaluation.
  • Experience shipping scalable products and deploying machine learning models.
  • Ability to influence product and infrastructure strategies.
  • Leadership in system design, lifecycle management, and cross-functional collaboration.
