Capital One Canada is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for Travel Tech. You will own cross‑functional architectural work, mentor engineers, and contribute to the next generation of enterprise payments and travel solutions. The team disrupts travel tech with applied AI, Brex integrations, and scalable platforms, delivering high‑volume, fault‑tolerant systems for millions of users.

Qualifications

• At least 6 years of hands-on development across multiple languages.
• 6+ years in application/data design, architecture and development.
• Full-stack capability: frontend and server-side development.
• Experience mentoring junior/intermediate engineers and guiding stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Contribute across the full Software Development Life Cycle as part of a dynamic team.
• Act as tech lead for cross-functional, multi-platform systems design and development.
• Use JavaScript/React/Angular/TypeScript, Python, Java and/or Go with AWS and databases.
• Improve developer experience and enhance internal frameworks and tools.
• Establish engineering best practices and code review standards.
• Define technical standards and provide guidance to ensure quality.

Your Responsibilities:

• Work as part of a dynamic team throughout the Software Development Life Cycle

• Act as a tech lead developer owning technical design and development of cross-functional, multi-platform, fault tolerant application systems

• Utilize programming languages like JavaScript, React, HTML/CSS, Angular/TypeScript, Python, Java and/or Go, Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, and a variety of AWS tools and services

• Continuously improve software engineering developer experience; identify gaps in existing internal framework and tools and contribute

• Establish Engineering best practices; identify and establish best practices and standards, such as code review standards.

• Technical expertises and Problem solving; define technical standards and providing technical support to ensure Engineering best practices are consistently met

• Architecture ownership - apply strong understanding of how evolving technology affects domain, follow High Level Design (HLD) methodology and contribute to HLD

• Provide mentorship to junior and intermediate associates through engineering best practices and standards

Basic Qualifications:

• At least 6 years of hands-on development experience preferably using at least two or more of the following programming languages: JavaScript, React, Angular/TypeScript, Python, Node.js, Java, and/or Go

• At least 6 years of experience with application and/or data design, architecture and development

• Proficiency in building both the user-facing front-end and the server-side back-end of applications as this is a Full-Stack role

• Experience providing mentorship to Junior/Intermediate Associates and guidance to technical and business stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

• 8+ Years of experience leading the full life-cycle of Software Development

• Bachelor's, Master’s or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or in related field

• Experience working in an agile environment and familiar with agile development methodologies

• Experience with AWS (highly preferred) or other cloud products (Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

The expected annual salary range for this position is $172,960 - $197,400. This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
