About The Role & Team

TheActivation team at Amplitude is building a leading insights-driven activation platform that empowers businesses to unlock customer insights and make faster, smarter, and more cost-effective decisions. Our platform enables customers to proactively improve data quality, intelligently discover key audiences, and seamlessly activate data across a wide range of channels.

We are responsible for building and maintaining scalable real-time and batch data pipelines that move data into and out of Amplitude and across our partner ecosystem. Today, this platform processes over 800 petabytes of data per month—and it's growing rapidly.

In this role, you’ll tackle challenging infrastructure problems such as:

  • Designing systems to handle extreme throughput
  • Optimizing for millisecond-level latencies
  • Building resilient architectures with near-zero downtime

You’ll also work closely with Product and Customers to shape the strategy and roadmap for both core platform capabilities and new product features.

Our tech stack includes modern technologies such as Kafka, real-time stream processing, Redis/Elasticache, Amazon S3, DynamoDB, Kubernetes, and Terraform. You’ll join a team of curious, innovative engineers who love solving hard problems and sharing ideas.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with Product and Design to turn ideas into working features
  • Build backend services that integrate with a variety of data warehouses and cloud platforms
  • Optimize the performance and scalability of our data import/export infrastructure to handle ever-growing data volumes
  • Lead engineering discussions and set the bar for technical excellence and best practices
  • Mentor junior engineers and support their growth and success
  • Define and drive the architectural vision for the product, ensuring long-term scalability and maintainability

You'll be a great addition to the team if you have:

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to dive into new code bases, languages and frameworks.
  • Enjoy working with customers and partners in solving problems and providing value.
  • Strong foundation in programming, algorithms, and software application design

At a minimum, you need to have:

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or another technical field
  • 6+ years of experience working in a Software Engineering role
  • Previous experience with Python or Java is a plus
  • Previous experience in distributed systems, data processing and analytics is a plus
  • Previous experience with ETL/ETL pipelines is a plus
  • Technical leadership of an engineering team is a plus
