Your role as a Staff Software Developer

Dialogue's Mobile and Web application is used by millions of Canadians. The team responsible for its development is looking for a Staff Software Developer to join and help evolve the main point of entry for the services that power Dialogue's software products.

About the Development team

Dialogue's Integrated Health Platform supports the health and wellness of millions of people across 49,000+ organizations. We operate a reliable, highly available, multi-tenant software architecture that powers several white-label mobile applications for our members, as well as desktop software used by our operations team to deliver care.

More broadly, the Member Experience group is responsible for our members' entire journey, from the moment they obtain access to Dialogue to the resolution of a health problem and the improvement of their quality of life. To improve the member experience, we strive to understand our members' needs, goals, motivations, and challenges, and develop plans that account for their current solutions. Our teams work together to develop solutions that create the best possible experience for our members.

What you'll be doing:

  • Writing and supporting a leading-edge unified codebase React-Native mobile and web application.
  • Understanding the experience of end-user problems defined by the product manager.
  • Working in a traditional scrum team that delivers solutions and user journeys incrementally, coaching more junior software developers.
  • Drafting and reviewing technical design documents and architecture.
  • Defining plans to manage and reduce technical debt and contributing to its implementation.

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Have 5+ years of relevant professional experience in consumer or business mobile application development.
  • Have experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, React Native, Expo, or Node.
  • For backend and full-stack profiles, proficiency in Python, PostgreSQL, and AWS services is important.
  • A B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in computer science or a related technical field is a plus.
  • A burning desire to make an impact while having fun solving complex challenges with your teammates!

You'll work on React Native and Expo based mobile apps, Python APIs backed by PostgreSQL, and contribute to AWS infrastructure with Terraform. Experience with these technologies is helpful but not required; we will help you get up to speed!

What it's like to be part of Dialogue Engineering

Empowered teams. Our teams own objectives, not projects. This means your team is empowered to engineer solutions creatively rather than just implement ideas. Dialogue engineers regularly meet with stakeholders to learn about their needs, gather feedback, and iterate collaboratively.

Fast development cycles. We have mature CI pipelines and automated testing that enable quick cycles, code reviews, and low defect rates. Changes can be verified and shipped safely in minutes.

DevOps mindset. Our applications are deployed to an auto-scaling Kubernetes cluster on AWS with infra-as-code. We continuously improve our infrastructure, tooling, and tech stack.

How we hire engineers

Our process aims to find candidates who enjoy their work, share our values, and enrich our culture. You'll be exposed to your actual work, and have opportunities to speak with peers and leaders. Details are on our careers page.

Your well-being is our priority

We offer a fully funded benefits plan, wellness reimbursements, flexible work, ongoing training budgets, incentive plans, parental benefits, and a Group Retirement Savings Program for eligible employees.
