Western University is seeking two Staff Sergeants to provide leadership and ensure safety within the campus community. The roles require extensive experience in policing, strong leadership skills, and an ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners to enhance community services and emergency management.
Classification & Regular Hours
Hours per Week: 40
Salary Grade 17: $90,331.43 - $106,262.86, commensurate with experience.
Please note, there are 2 positions available: Staff Sergeant, Community Services & Engagement and Staff Sergeant, Patrol Operations. The successful candidates for both roles will be expected to operate interchangeably.

Responsibilities
Staff Sergeant, Community Services & Engagement: The Staff Sergeant, Community Services & Engagement will be directly responsible for providing leadership, management and supervision to the Western Special Constable Service (WSCS) members assigned to community services and engagement programs. The Staff Sergeant, Community Services & Engagement will be accountable for performing the staff functions of administrating, coordinating, and monitoring the activities of the community services personnel to ensure a high professional standard of service is maintained, and the safety, security and well-being of the campus community is upheld. The Staff Sergeant, Community Services & Engagement is further responsible for developing, implementing, and championing campus community-based initiatives which reflect the mission, vision, and values of the Western Special Constable Service. The role acts as the primary WSCS liaison with various campus community partners, working groups and committees related to campus safety and well-being.
In the absence of the Staff Sergeant, Patrol Operations, Operations Leader or the Manager, Emergency Management & Continuity of Operations, the Community Services & Engagement Staff Sergeant may be required to assume the responsibilities of those roles.
Staff Sergeant, Patrol Operations: The Staff Sergeant, Patrol Operations will be directly responsible for providing leadership, management and supervision to the Patrol Section Sergeants, Patrol Section Special Constables and the Western Special Constable Service (WSCS) Communications Operators (dispatchers). The Staff Sergeant, Patrol Operations will be accountable for performing the staff functions of administrating, coordinating, and monitoring the activities of the Patrol Sections personnel to ensure a high professional standard of service is maintained, and the safety, security and well-being of the campus community is upheld. The role will be responsible for managing routine issues and corrective action of the Patrol Sections and enforcing standards of professional conduct and competence of Patrol Sections personnel. The Staff Sergeant, Patrol Operations is further responsible for developing, implementing, and championing operational initiatives and activities which reflect the mission, vision, and values of the Western Special Constable Service. The role acts as the primary WSCS liaison with the London Police Service (LPS) for operational and investigative matters.
In the absence of the Staff Sergeant, Community Services & Engagement, the Operations Leader or the Manager, Emergency Management & Continuity of Operations, the Staff Sergeant, Patrol Operations may be required to assume the responsibilities of those roles.
