At Illumina, we are expanding access to genomic technology to realize health equity for billions of people around the world. Our efforts enable life-changing discoveries that are transforming human health through the early detection and diagnosis of diseases and new treatment options for patients. Working at Illumina means being part of something bigger than yourself. Every person, in every role, has the opportunity to make a difference. Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world-changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.

Staff Program Manager, Infinium Array Platform

Illumina is seeking a Staff Program Manager to drive project execution and design changes within the Infinium Array portfolio. Candidates should have a strong understanding of product development processes, experience managing quality investigations, CAPAs, and design changes. Relevant multidisciplinary technical experience in assay development, surface chemistry, engineering, instrumentation, and software is required, with a preference for backgrounds in biochemistry and assay development. Familiarity with microarray-based genotyping and in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) is preferred.

The successful candidate will be a key member of the Array Project Management Office (PMO), responsible for on-market product support of the end-to-end Infinium array product family and ensuring the successful on-time delivery of all array product development programs. This includes products such as the iScan, customer workflow automation, ancillary lab equipment, microarray and reagent consumables, and customer-facing software.

Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and collaborate with on-market and PDP core teams to develop detailed project plans, define scope and goals, create WBS and task assignments, identify key tasks with detailed timelines, workstream dependencies, analyze critical paths, and set milestones.
  2. Form and engage project teams to identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans. Monitor project effectiveness and report on KPIs in conjunction with leadership.
  3. Present project plans and provide regular updates to senior management throughout the project lifecycle to manage progress and expectations.
  4. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance portfolio capabilities based on business priorities, applying best practices to improve products and cost efficiency.
  5. Manage multiple projects independently, communicating effectively across all organizational levels.
  6. Coordinate with internal personnel in a matrixed organization to balance priorities and optimize execution.
  7. Adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment with shifting demands, working with teams across different time zones (primarily PST and GMT). Demonstrate strong leadership to work effectively across teams and functions.

All listed tasks and responsibilities are essential; however, business conditions may require additional tasks and responsibilities.

Requirements:
  • Proficient in project management tools such as Microsoft Project and Office Timeline Pro+ for dependency tracking, critical path determination, resource loading, and schedule optimization.
  • Experience with product development lifecycles and on-market product management in R&D, manufacturing, or software development environments.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Confluence, JIRA, and Planisware software.
  • Proven success as an independent project manager with strong communication, interpersonal skills, and customer focus.
  • High emotional intelligence, negotiation, and influence skills across functions.
  • Experience working in regulated environments, familiar with design controls for medical devices (e.g., 21CFR820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971).
  • Preferred: Knowledge of genotyping, genetic sequencing principles, sequencing devices, and applications.

All requirements are essential; however, business needs may necessitate additional tasks.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Engineering or a Scientific discipline, with at least 8 years of experience in product development within a multinational corporation in a regulated industry. 4 years as a project manager, PMP certification a plus.
