Job summary

Apexon is hiring a Staff / Principal Software Engineer in Toronto, ON. The role is hybrid (3 days onsite) and focuses on owning architecture across Java backend, AWS, edge computing, and AI/ML platforms.

You will contribute to 0→1 product development, design scalable microservices, and lead technical decisions while shipping production systems with speed and quality.

• Proven 0→1/greenfield engineering experience.
• Strong architectural ownership and hands‑on delivery.

Hiring: Staff / Principal Software Engineer | Java + AI

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid - 3days onsite)

Looking for a Staff/Principal Software Engineer who loves building from 0→1, working through ambiguity, and shipping production systems quickly.

This is a hands-on IC role with strong architectural ownership, working across Java backend, AWS, edge computing, and AI/ML platforms.

What You’ll Work On

• Design end-to-end signal processing and ingestion flows
• Build scalable Java/Spring Boot microservices & APIs
• Architect solutions across CDN/edge compute & edge workers
• Build data pipelines and platform capabilities supporting ML inference
• Design integrations with identity/KYA/trust vendors
• Make architecture decisions around AWS, storage, reliability, observability & security
• Work closely with Data Science, Product and Engineering teams
• 10+ years building production distributed systems
• Deep Java + Spring Boot expertise
• Hands-on AI-assisted development – GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor or similar
• Proven 0→1 / greenfield engineering experience
• Strong system design and architecture skills
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Contract: 6 months contract (High possibility of extension upto 1 year)
