Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across a range of clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, expanding to 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

You must have a live NMC UK pin to be considered for this post.

This is a permanent, full-time position with a shift pattern of 12-hour shifts, available Monday to Sunday, including days and nights.

Renal services are seeking to recruit Band 5 nurses to join Ward 4A at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. The ward operates a 12-hour day and night shift rotation. Applications are invited from Registered General Nurses active on the NMC Register to join our enthusiastic and innovative team as Staff Nurses.

Ward 4A is a 20-bed area with 8 high acuity beds and 12 general nephrology beds. It is a fast-paced environment offering care for patients with various conditions. Ward 4C is a 15-bed kidney transplant and renal surgical ward, home to the West of Scotland Kidney Transplant Unit, which runs a busy live donor transplant program and is also home to the West of Scotland Renal Vascular Access Centre, providing specialized care. This role offers experience in kidney transplantation, renal vascular access procedures, complications, and haemodialysis treatment.

Ward 4D is our general nephrology ward, and the Renal Assessment Unit (RAU) is our day care area for outpatient treatments. New staff are supported to undertake local renal education and competency training.

The Successful Candidate Will

  • Be responsible for assessing care needs and developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives/carers, and team members to ensure appropriate information sharing and patient needs are met.

In addition to current NMC registration, candidates must demonstrate evidence of professional development, possess basic IT skills, and have good communication skills and enthusiasm for renal nursing. Evidence of current NMC registration will be required before start, and PVG scheme membership/disclosure Scotland check is mandatory.
