Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Nurse for the department of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The Staff Nurse, in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, oversees, coordinates, and provides focused, episodic care to patients. This care encompasses health promotion, health, or management of health-related problems that is delivered in face-to-face or telephone encounters. Additional responsibilities include delegation, direction, and supervision of the activities of LPNs and non-nursing clinical staff to meet the needs of Rutgers Health patients.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • The RN will perform the duties and responsibilities associated with cardiac stress testing.
  • Screens patients the day prior, confirms appointments, and provides pre-procedure instructions.
  • Conducts a short history and physical (H&P), takes vital signs, and assesses for contraindications.
  • Prepares the patient by inserting an IV line, attaching EKG leads, and monitoring vital signs during the stress test.
  • Confers with the physician for discharge clearance, provides post-procedure instructions, and ensures a smooth transition for the patient.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
  • Responsible for assisting with patients who are medically complex and/or have sensitive medical or social issues.
