Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) seeks Registered Nurses or ODPs with a keen interest in perioperative care to join the Theatre team at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. You will deliver high-quality, clinically effective patient care across a varied surgical caseload.

The role offers opportunities for ongoing in-service training, rotational theatre exposure for newly qualified staff, and a strong education program to support professional development.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with NMC or ODP with HCPC registration (minimum 5 years post-registration).
  • Degree level education desirable.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development essential.
  • Post-registration qualification or significant experience in specialty desirable.
  • Able to fulfil criteria in job description.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Practice within the NMC/NHS legal and ethical framework to ensure patient safety and wellbeing.
  • Comply with NHS Scotland policies, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde guidelines and HSE legislation.
  • Empower patients to participate in their care with information and transparency.
  • Provide clinical leadership for assessment and implementation of person-centred care programs.
  • Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines.

We are interested in hearing from Registered ODP's/Nurses with a keen interest in perioperative care. As an essential part of our Theatre team, you’ll deliver high quality, clinically effective patient care at all times. We can offer you a varied surgical caseload due to our extensive Neurosurgical, Oral Maxillofacial, and Neuro-interventional radiology procedures that will help you develop your capabilities and experience and you’ll enjoy the real respect, rapport and effective working of a close-knit, highly skilled, multidisciplinary team.

We are looking for Registered Nurses/ODPs who demonstrate a commitment to undertake ongoing in-service training and development, which is fully supported by our dedicated Perioperative Clinical Educator. We offer excellent opportunities for personal development, for example, for newly qualified nurses we can offer a rotational program through our theatre suite, with an established supportive education program.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
  • Shift pattern for this post are Monday to Sunday – early/late shift, weekends, on call
  • Permanent Contract
  • Full-time Position (36 hours per week)
Key Responsibilities
  • Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and wellbeing are met.
  • Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.
  • Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well-being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner, thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care
  • Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and wellbeing are met.

  • Provide clinical leadership for the assessment of patient needs, implementation and evaluation of programmes of person‑centred care which are evidence based. Utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • First Level Registered Nurse registered with the NMC or ODP registered with the HCPC with a minimum of 5 years post registration experience.
  • Educated to degree level is desirable
  • Evidence of continuing professional development is essential
  • Post registration qualification/significant relevant experience in specialty is desirable
  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
