Job description

Within the hospital and nursing department philosophy, mission, standards, the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice, and the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Code of Ethics for Nursing, the Staff Nurse provides professional nursing care as part of a multidisciplinary team. The nurse is responsible and accountable for coordinating and delivering direct client care using the nursing process, providing guidance to auxiliary personnel and staff, and responding to emergencies to ensure safety for clients, visitors, and staff.

Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience

Registered with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN.

• General duty staff nurses require Basic Life Support, Level C, post-basic education for clinical areas, and up to one year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Specialty unit nurses (e.g., Operating Room, Post Anesthetic Recovery, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Psychiatry) require specialty certification and up to two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination.
• Critical Care, Emergency, and Intensive Care nurses require Advanced Cardiac Life Support and specialty certification, with up to two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination.

• Physical ability to perform duties.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm and act appropriately in stressful and emergency situations.
