Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff FrontEnd Engineer - Platform - App Core Usage based in Canada.

As a Staff FrontEnd Engineer, you will help build and evolve the critical applications and platform services that power customer usage, billing, and account management for a large-scale SaaS environment. With a strong focus on frontend engineering and meaningful backend contributions, you will develop intuitive customer experiences using TypeScript and React while supporting APIs and services built with Go and Node.js. You will work at the intersection of product engineering, platform infrastructure, and business operations, ensuring reliable usage calculations, seamless integrations, and scalable customer workflows. As a senior technical leader, you will guide complex projects, mentor engineers, and influence architectural decisions across teams. You will also strengthen system reliability, automated delivery, and operational resilience in a distributed, remote-first environment. This role offers the opportunity to solve challenging engineering problems while shaping the future of cloud-native applications and developer experiences.

Accountabilities
  • Build and evolve full-stack applications: Design, develop, operate, and maintain reliable web applications, customer portals, backend services, and APIs supporting usage, billing, and account management workflows.
  • Lead frontend development: Create intuitive, performant, and maintainable user interfaces using TypeScript, React, modern component libraries, and contemporary frontend development practices.
  • Develop backend services and APIs: Build and maintain backend applications and services using Go and Node.js, ensuring reliability, scalability, and effective communication between systems.
  • Support usage metering and billing: Develop and improve business logic for usage calculations, pricing structures, promotions, billing reconciliation, and cost management applications, ensuring accuracy and consistency across customer workflows.
  • Design and maintain integrations: Build robust integrations between internal platforms and external business systems, including NetSuite, Salesforce, and cloud marketplaces such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Improve platform reliability: Address technical debt, strengthen test coverage, optimize CI/CD pipelines, and improve observability, alerting, monitoring, and operational resilience.
  • Own production systems: Take responsibility for the production behavior of the systems you build, including maintaining runbooks, dashboards, rollout controls, recovery procedures, and safe reconciliation mechanisms. Troubleshoot incidents across service boundaries and address partial failures and inconsistent system states.
  • Drive technical strategy: Lead major engineering initiatives, contribute to roadmap planning and prioritization, evaluate architectural options, and establish pragmatic solutions to complex distributed systems challenges.
  • Collaborate across teams: Partner with product management, Deal Operations, go-to-market teams, customer support, UX specialists, and adjacent engineering squads to deliver cohesive end-to-end solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship: Support engineers through code reviews, design discussions, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing while promoting high engineering standards and asynchronous collaboration.
  • Improve development practices: Leverage AI-assisted and agentic development tools where appropriate to accelerate implementation, testing, documentation, and operations while maintaining code quality, security, and reliability.
  • Support operational excellence: Contribute to on-call improvements, incident response, and follow-the-sun support rotations, helping ensure critical customer and business workflows remain dependable.
Requirements
  • Professional experience: Demonstrate strong experience building and operating production-grade software for large-scale SaaS platforms, including at least one year of fully remote work experience.
  • Frontend expertise: Have substantial professional experience with TypeScript, React, and modern frontend development, with a strong commitment to usability, accessibility, maintainability, and developer experience.
  • Backend development: Possess strong practical experience with Go and/or Node.js, including developing backend services, APIs, and integrations. The ability to work effectively across frontend and backend systems is essential.
  • Distributed systems knowledge: Understand common SaaS architecture challenges, including scalability, multi-tenancy, high availability, data isolation, eventual consistency, and cross-service coordination.
  • Cloud and infrastructure experience: Bring strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure, along with familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Helm, Terraform, or Jsonnet.
  • Software quality and testing: Consistently write clean, robust, well-tested, and maintainable code that other engineers can understand, operate, and extend.
  • End-to-end project ownership: Have experience taking projects from requirements gathering and technical design through implementation, release, and feedback-driven iteration, working independently while keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Technical leadership: Demonstrate the ability to lead complex initiatives, make sound architectural decisions, mentor other engineers, and break large problems into manageable, incremental improvements.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, coordinate effectively across teams, and remain receptive to feedback while aligning technical decisions with broader business needs.
  • Operational awareness: Be comfortable troubleshooting production systems, investigating incidents, improving monitoring and recovery processes, and making careful changes to systems that directly affect customers.
  • Remote collaboration: Thrive in a distributed, asynchronous working environment, demonstrating autonomy, transparency, accountability, and strong written communication skills.
  • AI-enabled engineering: Be willing to thoughtfully incorporate AI-assisted development tools into software design, implementation, testing, documentation, and operations where they improve productivity and reliability.
Nice To Have
  • Experience with high-volume usage metering, billing engines, or customer-facing cost management applications.
  • Experience building and maintaining integrations with third-party business systems, including NetSuite, Salesforce, and cloud marketplaces.
  • Familiarity with frontend component libraries, design systems, and modern CSS-in-JS technologies.
  • Knowledge of cloud marketplace integrations across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, as well as SaaS provisioning and tenancy patterns.
  • Experience with SaaS provisioning, regional expansion, plugin rollout, or customer lifecycle management systems.
  • Experience responding to incidents involving configuration drift, partial failures, reconciliation issues, or inconsistent state across services.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation: Annual compensation ranging from CAD $186,368 to $223,642, depending on experience, skills, and assessed level.
  • Equity participation: Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) that provide an ownership stake and align individual contributions with the organization's long-term success.
  • Fully remote work: Work remotely from Canada as part of a globally distributed team.
  • Global collaboration: Collaborate with talented engineers and professionals across multiple countries and time zones in a remote-first environment.
  • Generous annual leave: A global annual leave policy of 30 days per year, including three designated company shutdown days, subject to applicable local legislation.
  • In-person onboarding: Participate in in-person onboarding designed to help you connect with colleagues, understand team practices, and get started successfully.
  • Career development: Access defined career growth pathways and opportunities to expand your technical leadership and engineering expertise.
  • Autonomy and ownership: Take responsibility for meaningful projects, influence technical direction, and deliver solutions in a high-trust environment.
  • Transparent culture: Benefit from open communication, visible leadership, collaborative decision-making, and a focus on outcomes rather than appearances.
  • Innovation and open-source values: Work in an engineering culture that values open-source principles, experimentation, interoperability, and continuous improvement.
  • Supportive team environment: Join a collaborative organization that values diverse perspectives, knowledge sharing, and meaningful technical work.
