Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Flight Test Engineer – Mission Planner to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test and Evaluation organization on the Flight Test Operations (FTO) team. This position is located in Edwards AFB, CA.

The selected candidate will synthesize customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. Responsibilities include developmental flight test mission planning, ground/flight testing, fielding, and possible Programmed Depot Maintenance missions for multiple platforms using Laboratory Mission Data Systems (LMDS), Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS), and Portable Flight Planning System (PFPS). They will ensure coordination of all flight test mission requirements, build flight mission cartridges, and produce all required mission support documents, such as flight plans, charts, and weapons data, while maintaining currency of LMDS, JMPS, and PFPS software and hardware.

Essential Job Duties
  • Provide pre/post mission support planning and documentation, including training plans and supporting formal meetings for safety, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Review and evaluate test requirements for completeness, feasibility, and adequacy of the test program.
  • Provide laboratory support for integration testing.
  • Interface with design and analysis teams to define test configurations and data requirements.
  • Support test card development, review, and test readiness reviews, along with pre/post-test briefings.
  • Support test planning working groups as needed.
  • Conduct data analyses to support anomaly identification and resolution, maintaining testing metrics.
  • Work extended shifts and odd hours as needed to support flight test execution.
Additional Job Responsibilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry mission planning software.
  • Ability to brief test results/issues to executive leadership.

This position requires excellent written and oral communication skills. The candidate will serve as a principal focal point between maintenance, design engineering, and the test team, working independently and within a team, being self-motivated, thorough, and eager to learn additional test disciplines.

The standard shift is on a 4/10 schedule, with possible shift adjustments notified in advance.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technical, Engineering, or Math (STEM).
  • Minimum of 14 years of experience, or 12 years with a Masters in STEM, including military/professional experience with Navigator/Mission Planner/support to flying operations, flight test, or flight training.
  • Experience with mission planning, execution, and debriefing.
  • Ability to work any shift.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (with recent background investigation or current continuous evaluation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Program Access (PAR).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a US Air Force Pilot/Navigator/Mission Planner, US Navy or USMC NFO, or equivalent.
  • Experience with mission planning tools (JMPS, PFPS, AFMSS).
  • Experience with mission planning development/testing during aircraft developmental programs.
  • Experience with proprietary mission planning tools.
  • Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Familiarity with SCI and SAP security procedures.
  • Masters degree in STEM.
  • Relevant FAA ratings.
Salary Range: $141,400 - $212,000. Northrop Grumman considers various factors for salary offers, including experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
