Role Description

The Mechanical Engineering team at Form is focused on designing the battery cell, module, and system enclosure that forms the foundation of our innovative utility-scale multi-day energy storage system. We strive to deliver designs that are optimized for performance, quality, reliability, and cost for high-volume manufacturing at Form Factory.

Our team is hiring a CAD Configuration Lead to define the CAD assembly structure, modeling processes, and hygiene by which we design our products at Form. In this role you will maintain CAD from part level to product level and establish, document, and maintain best practices for 3D parts and assemblies and for 2D drawings. This is a highly cross functional role, in which you'll have an opportunity to collaborate with team members across product development, program management, supply chain, and manufacturing.

What you'll do:
  • Own Solidworks CAD/PDM structure and work with change analysts to ensure proper BOM capture in Arena

  • Work with design engineers to create and modify top-level assemblies

  • Create 3D CAD models & 2D drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) standards

  • Establish and enforce best practices for 3D modeling (lightweight configurations, geometry simplification, interference checks, mates), and 2D drawings (drawing templates, drafting guidelines)

  • Ensure proper version / revision controls are utilized, and proper statusing of CAD assemblies between development builds

  • Manage the top-level assembly drawing creation process

What you'll bring:
  • BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience creating and managing complex 3D CAD parts and assemblies

  • Proficiency in creating drawings in accordance to ASME Y14.5 (GD&T)

  • Experience creating Bill of Materials (BOMs) with an understanding of how CAD structures impacts manufacturing, procurement, and supply chain

  • Demonstrated ability to define requirements, and create new processes that lead to successful outcomes

  • Strong technical communication skills, especially across internal functional teams

  • Experiencing integrating and customizing MCAD, ECAD, and PDM solutions is a plus
