About the team and role:

We are the Selling Engineering Team! We are seeking a hard-working, creative and passionate Staff Backend Software Engineer to architect, design and develop innovative, highly performant, available software in the form of web services and applications across various device form factors that help business sellers worldwide to onboard, handle inventory & listing and grow their business on the largest global marketplace.

These applications help business sellers worldwide to onboard, manage, and grow their businesses on eBay's global marketplace. You will contribute at the very core of eBay’s selling experience, to deliver an engaging selling experience for more than 25 million sellers across 22 nations, who collectively generate billions of dollars in revenue quarterly.

What you will accomplish:

1. Responsible for a functional domain to craft cross data center distributed, fault tolerant, highly available and performant web services and web applications by using software architecture design, OOA/D skills in addition to outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.
2. Own major projects and features from design phase to coding, testing, deployment and support.
3. Estimate engineering effort, plan implementation, and rollout system changes and identify project technical risks and make recommendations to mitigate.
4. Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins and Git.

What you will bring:

1. Prefer BSCS, BSEE, MSEE or MSCS or similar technical degree, plus 8+ years of experience crafting & developing highly scalable distributed platforms and services and internet scale web applications.
2. Expert and hands-on experiences in Java, Spring Framework, Caching, GraphQL, Design Patterns, OOA/D, Data Structures, REST, JSON, and Internet Protocols.
3. Proficiency in a programming language such as Java/Scala, strong foundation in data structures, algorithms and a strong understanding of multithreading, synchronization, concurrent programming; deep architectural understanding of system design and lead project to completion.
4. Proven knowledge and experiences of relational database (oracle) and/or noSQL data technologies (Mongo, Cassandra, Couchbase), ElasticSearch and related toolset.
5. Experience driving architecture discussions, producing well-documented design docs, participating in design and code reviews and contributing to coding and unit testing of fault-tolerant application and familiarity with all the layers of multi-tier applications to craft complete solutions and maintain products.
6. Experience in non-functional skills like Security, Load and Performance Tests, Accessibility, Site Speed optimization, Cross-browser /Cross-platform UX Design.
