Job summary

Safe Software in Surrey, BC, is seeking an experienced Staff AI Developer to lead backend services for AI products, including FME AI Service and AI Assist Plugin. You will design agentic workflows, ship production-grade services, and work across product, UX, and QA teams in a hybrid setup.

You will primarily work in Python with FastAPI and LangChain, grow with AI tooling, and contribute to live applications while mentoring others and improving code quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Typically, at least 7 years of experience working on production backend systems.
• Track record of leading technically ambiguous projects and elevating engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and build server-side services and APIs (FastAPI).
• Create modular agentic workflows to augment FME platform capabilities.
• Stay updated on AI/LLM tooling and incorporate ideas into products.
• Participate in all development cycle stages: specs, coding, tests, reviews.
• Collaborate with product, design, QA, and customer experience teams.
• Deliver high quality user experiences and reduce latency in AI services.
• Investigate anomalies and support live applications with on-call rotations.
