Qualifications

Job description

Our client is an accounting firm based out of Hamilton, Ontario.

Overview of the Opportunity:

The Staff Accountant, Tax, is responsible for assisting clients with their income tax returns. These qualified professionals research and study tax law. Their work includes being an internal resource for all staff that require basic tax support for their client issues.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately prepare advanced tax returns and necessary working paper support.
  • Assess and research simple tax issues to identify solutions for review with manager/partner.
  • Support tax savings during preparation and review.
  • Ensure compliance with tax law regulations.
  • Offer support and guidance during CRA audits.
  • Keep track of industry trends and changes related to taxes.
  • Assist in responding to CRA pre and post assessment requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or equivalent diploma or experience.

Completion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation as well as an interest in attaining the In-Depth Tax Program and/or Masters in Tax.

Experience

Zero to three years’ experience in tax compliance.

Skills and Knowledge

Understanding of Canadian income tax, and tax research.

  • Experience with TaxPrep or other tax preparation programs.
  • Demonstrated initiative, willingness, and ability to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to work under pressure, be decisive, exercise good judgment and common sense.
  • Ability to recognize and analyze problems, propose sound alternatives and conclusions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
