Summary Of Duties

Reporting to the District Administrator/Designate, the Education Assistant-Individual(s) participates as a team member and assists in planning and implementing adaptations and strategies as outlined in the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP). This role is primarily within the classroom or learning support room, under the direction of the classroom teacher or Learning Support Teacher (LST). Responsibilities may include maintaining vigilance for safety, providing personal assistance, supporting behavior safety plans, and assisting with student mobility depending on individual needs.

Required Qualifications And Experience

  • Grade 12 Graduation
  • Post-secondary training such as a Special Education Assistant certificate or related courses
  • Recent experience and training supporting ABA programs
  • Ability to operate various types of special equipment
  • Valid B.C. Driver's license (may be required for certain positions)
  • Proven success in working with parents, teachers, and students with exceptional needs
  • Flexibility and organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work with students with diverse physical, social, and cognitive needs

OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Site Specific Considerations

Candidates should have experience working with children with a variety of needs, including learning disabilities, multiple handicapping conditions, challenging behaviors, and autism. Personal care and support for community activities may be required. Driving may also be necessary.
