Job description

The Strait Regional Centre for Education invites applications from qualified candidates for the posted vacancy. In accordance with the CUPE (3100) Collective Agreement, senior qualified candidates will be given preference.

The Strait Regional Centre for Education, established on April 1, 2018, delivers the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. The centre operates 20 schools with approximately 5,981 students and 375 children attending pre-primary programs.

The Early Childhood Educator falls within the CUPE Local 955 job classification. Salary and benefits information can be accessed through the CUPE Local 955 Collective Agreement.

Work Schedule: 6 hours/day. Deadline for Applications: 10/10/2025, at 11:59 pm. Effective Dates: 10/20/2025 to 06/29/2026.

Early Childhood Educator - Pre-Primary Program

The Early Childhood Educator will support the Lead Early Childhood Educator in implementing the Pre-Primary Program, ensuring a supportive and secure environment for young children.

The Early Childhood Educator will work collaboratively with the Lead Early Childhood Educator, reporting to the school Principal.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating an inviting learning environment that supports all children;
  • Working with the Lead Early Childhood Educator to establish routines and procedures;
  • Observing children daily to learn about them as individuals;
  • Delivering a creative curriculum responsive to children's interests and needs;
  • Welcoming and communicating with families regarding their child's experiences;
  • Establishing relationships with families and facilitating their involvement in the program;
  • Supporting children's development in key areas, including Well Being, Discovery and Invention, Language and Communication, and Personal and Social Responsibility;
  • Implementing positive behaviour guidance and supporting social-emotional learning;
  • Creating documentation, individual portfolios, and pedagogical displays;
  • Providing timely identification of and responses to children and families in need of additional supports;
  • Supporting the Lead ECE in implementing Routine Based plans and administering medication;
  • Collaborating with the Lead ECE to ensure Pre-Primary children are welcomed into the school community;
  • Participating in the comprehensive evaluation of the Pre-Primary Program via the Continuous Quality Improvement process.
Essential Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have:

  • A diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education from a recognized institution;
  • An in-depth understanding of child growth and development and demonstrated knowledge of play-based pedagogy;
  • Ability to translate theory into action in early childhood settings;
  • Experience with observation, documentation, and authentic assessment strategies;
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds;
  • Ability to create inclusive and responsive early learning environments;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Computer skills suitable for report writing and internet application;
  • Current first aid certification.

Preference will be given to applicants with recent work experience in a regulated childcare environment or Pre-primary program. Your application must include at least three work-related references, including your most recent supervisor.
