Job description

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE), established on April 1, 2018, is part of the Nova Scotia public education system. It focuses on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being, and overall success. With approximately 1,050 employees, SRCE manages 20 schools with about 5,981 students and offers pre-primary programs at 14 locations attended by around 375 children. Located in northeastern Nova Scotia, SRCE's jurisdiction covers the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, and Richmond, an area of roughly 11,000 square kilometers with a population of 53,742 (Census 2021).

School Counsellor

Essential Qualifications:

  • Valid teacher certification for Nova Scotia;
  • Methodology courses, experience, or practicum teaching in the subject area(s) at the appropriate level;
  • Excellent classroom and student management skills;
  • Knowledge and experience with technologies that enhance instruction and learning;
  • Knowledge and/or experience in implementing inclusive teaching and assessment strategies;
  • Master's in Counselling, meeting the Department of Education Provincial Guidance/Counselling Program 2008 May standards;
  • Completion of graduate courses in:
    • Individualized Counselling Theory and Practice,
    • Group Counselling Theory and Practice,
    • Assessment or Testing,
    • Career Theory and Practice,
    • Professional Practice Issues and Ethics,
    • University Faculty Supervised On-Site Practicum;
