Overview

Tokio Marine Canada (TMCAN), an entrepreneurial Canadian insurance company based in Toronto and part of the Tokio Marine Group, is seeking a Senior Underwriter/Specialist, Surety Solutions. We focus on the commercial Property and Casualty industry, partnering with brokers across Canada to provide diverse insurance solutions.

Position Summary

Reporting to business leaders and collaborating with peers, you will help develop and manage the surety business in Western Canada, working closely with the Tokio Marine Canada Surety team. Our goal is to assemble a top-tier team of professionals dedicated to excellence and innovation in our industry.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Underwriting
  • Assess new risks through detailed analysis for acceptability and pricing.
  • Review financial statements, collateral, and character of surety opportunities.
  • Approve or recommend approval/denial of bonds based on project reviews within authority limits.
  • Manage and review existing surety portfolios, ensuring timely follow-up on action items.
  • Contribute to system and process improvements for efficiency.
  • Assist with underwriting efforts across regions as needed.
  • Support marketing, legal, and claims functions when required.
  • Strategy & Broker Management
    • Build and maintain relationships with select brokers.
    • Develop and implement broker strategies with the surety team.
    • Promote the Tokio Marine Canada brand in collaboration with other business units.
    • Travel regionally for broker and industry events.
    Candidate Profile

    Ideal candidates are experienced surety underwriters with a collaborative mindset, positive attitude, and ability to adapt quickly. You should be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills and customer service orientation are essential.

    Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field preferred.
    • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Surety underwriting.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to innovate and lead solutions efficiently.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Bilingual in English/French is preferred but not required.
