A leading educational institution in Dawson Creek is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator. This role requires expertise in managing enterprise systems and providing technical support. Ideal candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and strong skills in infrastructure technologies. The position offers competitive pay and encourages diversity among applicants.
Term of App't: Temporary, Full Time (Monday - Friday, 7 hours per day) - to backfill a current temporary vacancy within the department.

Reporting to: IT Infrastructure Manager
Salary: | Classification 17, $32.73 - $33.74 per hour, as per BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees in this role will also receive an additional $0.58/hour in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay. In addition to these, the Sr Systems Administrator currently receives a stipend of an additional $5.49 per hour (Labour Market Adjustment). Campuses are closed during the Christmas break (Dec 25 - Jan 1) which is unpaid time off. |

Work with cutting edge technologies from Meraki, PaloAlto, Microsoft, Dell, Polycom, and many others. The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for installing and supporting systems hardware and software solutions, ensuring the maintenance, backup/recovery, management, security, and accessibility of NLC's mission-critical enterprise systems and data, as well as maintaining the cleanliness of on-premises servers and systems. This role involves the technical design, planning, and implementation of new systems, collaborating closely with the infrastructure team, vendors, contractors, consultants, and other third parties. The Senior Systems Administrator also provides support for all users (students and staff) regarding NLC's systems infrastructure and is responsible for introducing and training the IT team members in the use and management of systems, related utilities, and resources. |
Qualifications: | The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, however those with a combination of relevant certifications and work experience may also be considered. The candidate should possess strong break/fix skills in virtual and physical infrastructure technologies (VMs, Azure, Windows and Linux Servers, SharePoint, and Video Conferencing Systems) and experience with Microsoft Exchange in a hybrid deployment, MS SQL, and SIEM technologies. Experience with Active Directory, PowerShell, Power Automate, and the Microsoft O365/Azure environment, along with a good understanding of Windows Server and data governance/security, is required. Related certifications, such as A+, MCSA/MCSE, Security+, etc., would be an asset. A current driver's license is also required for this position. To succeed in this role, you must be observant, a self-starter, and able to understand new technology quickly. You should be skilled in planning and executing multiple tasks and projects, prioritizing effectively, working under pressure, and meeting deadlines. Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills for planning, designing, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining IT infrastructure are essential. |
