Summary:

As the Operations Manager, you will plan, coordinate, direct, and control all ramp operations within the intermodal terminal, ensuring trains are received, loaded, and/or unloaded in accordance with policies, guidelines, and established plans and priorities, while meeting on-time performance and minimizing costs.

The intermodal terminal operates 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. Must be able to work any needed shift (day, swing, night) and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Ramp Operations: Oversee and manage the day-to-day operations of the intermodal ramp, ensuring efficient and safe handling of containers, equipment, and vehicles while focusing on safety, performance, and productivity.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of ramp personnel. Provide guidance, support, and training to enhance their performance and professional growth.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. Promote a culture of safety, conduct safety training sessions, and enforce safety protocols to minimize accidents and injuries.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Coordinate and oversee regular maintenance and repair of ramp equipment, including hostlers, cranes, and loading/unloading machinery. Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure optimal functionality and minimize downtime.
  • Resource Management: Efficiently allocate manpower, equipment, and resources to meet operational requirements. Monitor and adjust staffing levels based on workload and demand fluctuations.
  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly monitor and evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess ramp productivity, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective measures to meet or exceed performance targets.
  • Customer Service: Collaborate with customer service teams to ensure timely and accurate communication with customers regarding shipment status, delays, and any other relevant information. Address customer inquiries or concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency gains. Implement initiatives to streamline ramp operations, reduce turnaround times, and enhance overall operational performance.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records, generate reports, and document daily ramp activities, ensuring data integrity and providing insights for management decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in ramp operations within the intermodal transportation industry, with a proven track record of successfully leading teams and optimizing processes.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of intermodal ramp operations, including loading/unloading procedures, container handling, and equipment maintenance. Familiarity with safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Leadership Skills: Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse team. Proven experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing talent.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and precision.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactive problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly analyze situations, identify issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, delegate responsibilities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in using relevant ramp management software, equipment tracking systems, and other tools to optimize operations.
