Job description

Maskwa is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our substation engineering team in Calgary . We offer a dynamic work environment with a highly experienced technical team, where you'll receive guidance, hands-on training, and continuous challenges in all aspects of engineering and design.

Responsibilities :

• Lead and mentor the substation civil team, review designs for compliance, and collaborate with other disciplines.
• Prepare key documents like Design Basis Memorandum (DBM), Engineering Design Specification (EDS), cost estimates, material take-offs, scopes of work, and create design packages.
• Promote safety in all design work.
• Prepare Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings, write construction scopes of work, and provide engineering support during construction phases.
• Oversee the preparation of As-Built drawings and project close-out data.
• Support earthworks, foundation, and structural aspects of substation engineering, and offer technical guidance to design teams.
• Track project progress, provide weekly updates to senior management, and maintain in-depth knowledge of client and industry standards.
• Conduct quality control reviews, develop new tools and processes, and complete cost estimates for bids.
• Work closely with clients and maintain excellent relationships.
• Some travel for site visits may be necessary to provide technical support during construction.

Qualifications :

• Experience in the utilities industries in civil design of high voltage substation facilities.
• Minimum 10 years of work experience.
• B.Sc. in Civil Engineering and registered as an active member with APEGA.

Preferred Qualifications :

• 10-15 years of experience working in utility substations, including previous experience leading a design team and mentoring junior engineers.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a diverse range of clients.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
• Positive attitude, strong client focus, and results driven.
• Competency in a broad range of civil sub-disciplines, including earthworks, foundations, geotechnical, and structural.
